Canadian Registration Number (CRN)?
Whether you're fabricating a pressure vessel, designing a jacketed reactor, or sourcing a shell-and-tube heat exchanger for your Canadian facility, the Canadian Registration Number (CRN) is more than a formality, it’s a legal requirement and a technical validation of safety, design, and code compliance.
At Acetake Group, we don’t just help you "get" a CRN. We engineer your path to approval efficiently, accurately, and with zero shortcuts.
What is CRN?
A CRN is a province issued unique identifier that certifies a pressure retaining item has been reviewed, validated, and approved according to Canadian safety standards.
Each province and territory in Canada has its own pressure safety authority like:
-
TSSA in Ontario
-
ABSA in Alberta
-
TSBC in British Columbia
-
AQP in Québec
-
MIR/TSASK in Manitoba and Saskatchewan
These authorities issue CRNs after a full design review of your pressure equipment. That includes an evaluation of:
-
Mechanical drawings
-
Calculations (including ASME VIII, B31.1/B31.3)
-
Materials of construction
-
Weld procedures (WPS/PQR)
-
Non-destructive testing strategy
-
Compliance with CSA B51, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and provincial acts
A CRN typically looks like this:
0A12345.56
- 0A12345 = File number
.5,.6, etc. = Province codes (e.g., Ontario =.5, Alberta =.6)
Why Does It Matter?
In Canada, you must obtain a CRN before installing or operating:
-
Boilers
-
Pressure vessels
-
Piping systems
-
Fittings and custom pressurized assemblies
-
Heat exchangers and high-pressure HVAC equipment
Even if your system is built to the highest standards, it's not legally compliant until it’s registered and Acetake Group ensures you get it done right the first time.
Multi-Province Registration. One System, 13 Jurisdictions
Canada doesn't have a single federal regulator for pressure equipment. Each of the 13 provinces and territories has its own pressure safety office.
This creates a bureaucratic maze if you're trying to register one system across the country.
That’s where Acetake Group comes in.
We specialize in streamlining multi-jurisdictional CRN approvals, handling all the variations in application forms, calculation formats, language requirements (French in Québec), and approval lead times.
Acetake Group’s Role in CRN Success
Design Optimization
We review and enhance your designs with CSA/ASME compliance in mind—before the regulator sees it.
Application Management
We assemble the full submission package:
-
Stress calculations
-
Welding documentation
-
QA/QC forms
-
Manufacturer’s data reports (MDR)
-
Test plans and procedures
We speak the regulator’s language.
Inspector Level Expertise
Our team includes certified NDE technicians and P.Engs who know exactly what authorities are looking for and where most applications fail.
Communication With Authorities
We don’t just submit your application and hope. We follow up, respond to inquiries, handle clarifications, and push for timelines to be met.
Why Acetake Clients Succeed
At Acetake Group, CRN approval is never a guessing game. It’s an engineered process.
We’ve helped clients in:
-
Pharmaceuticals Jacketed bioreactors with CIP/SIP systems
-
Food & beverage Skid piping for CO₂ and pressurized tanks
-
Oil & gas High-pressure separators and pipelines
-
HVAC Complex multi-coil commercial heat exchangers
-
Nuclear & clean energy Pressure boundaries in critical systems
Each project is different. That’s why we don’t use templates we create tailored compliance strategies.
